Socks Save The Day!

Many of our community client’s are referred to Bodycoat Rehabilitation because they are having difficulty completing their everyday activities as a result of an injury, illness or changes related to age. Maintaining independence at home at home is often one of the key things our client’s tell us they want- to stay at home as long as possible. Preventing falls becomes a natural part of our conversation with client’s and we are always recommending ways to help people stay on their feet and off the floor.

A common recommendation is for client’s to wear a well fitting pair of shoes indoor and avoid wearing just socks or slippers. For many people, this recommendation seems crazy as wearing shoes indoors is a big NO, NO.

We recently found a great solution called, Gripperz. They are a non-slip sock, that provide extra grip which an ordinary pair of socks does not. You can wear them on any surface and they provide added traction and grip which is often missing when someone has a slip or fall when wearing socks or slippers.

Some of most high risk falls client’s have been wearing Gripperz and report feeling safer on their feet than they have in years.

We have a variety of colours and sizes available so order yours now. Call Laura on 0404 805 423

Work plays such an important part of our lives. It can help shape who we are, provide a means for social interaction and allow us to be and feel productive. After a severe injury, such as in traumatic brain injury, returning to work is sometimes not possible.

Bodycoat Rehabilitation OT’s can assist with exploring alternative opportunities which clients enjoy and gain the sense of achievement and purpose they previously gained from work.

Sonny (pictured left) is unable to return to work, but has found great satisfaction in volunteering at his local community garden. Sonny works independently, watering the plants in the large garden area. He works alongside the other volunteers and enjoys having morning tea and chatting to people.

Volunteering has enabled Sonny to participate in a workplace environment, contribute to his community and have regular social interaction with other people. A great outcome for a client with a severe injury.

Max

A severe injury can sometimes lead to changes in your home. For example, if after your injury you need to use a wheelchair, then it’s likely you will need to make some changes to your home.

At Bodycoat Rehabilitation, we work with client’s to complete a thorough assessment of the home and identify the practical and safe changes required to make your home accessible.

Max is unable to easily access the clothes in his wardrobe (pictured right) and relies on carers or family to help.

Bodycoat Rehabilitation OT’s provided Max with information about accessible bedroom furniture and suggested suitable, practical and affordable options. Max is now able to get his clothes out of the cupboard without waiting for help.
